Nearly all American women—especially office workers—said they like or love their computer and admit to spending more time with it than their significant other, a study showed Monday.

Office workers spend nearly triple the amount of time with their computer as they do with their significant other -- 9.3 hours with the disk drive and keyboard compared with 3.6 hours with their human partner, an online poll of more than 2,600 U.S. adults conducted by Harris Interactive showed.

Only one in five of the women said she wished she could spend more time with her partner than with her computer, even if the latter caused them pain, often in the form of carpal tunnel syndrome, according to the poll.

Nearly two-thirds spend more time with their computer than they do shopping or outdoors, eight in 10 spend more time with their computer than do exercising, and four in 10 are with the computer more than with their family.

That is understandable, given that the 8.2 hours spent on average by Americans at work make up the largest slice of the pie chart for time use on an work day for employed persons, aged 25 to 54, with children, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The second biggest allotment of time goes to sleep -- 7.6 hours -- according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Is that a hard drive or are you just pleased to see me?

WOMEN PREFER their computers to blokes, according to a study conducted across the pond.

Apparently, women office workers spend almost three times as much time with their computers than their husbands or boyfriends.

It is not as if they mind, either. In fact, the Harris Interactive survey of 2,000 women said they prefer it.

Only one in five of the women said she wished she could spend more time with her partner than with her computer. We guess they were the ones using Vista.

Others said it was worth risking carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitive stress injuries just to be with their PC.

Face it... how many guys would have their girlfriends say that they would risk carpal tunnel syndrome to be with? Mind you some women have blokes that carpal tunnel syndrome would be a welcome relief from.

Remember we are talking about American blokes and American girls too. Chances are that a computer would be much more fun getting stuck with. Certainly some of the new computers are a lot slimmer. µ
